Diego Carlos makes same Aston Villa error again v Crystal Palace, Emery will be pulling his hair out

Unai Emery is likely to be fuming with Diego Carlos after he made a mistake against Crystal Palace, similar to what he did earlier in the season for Aston Villa against Wolves.

The Villans have been dumped out of the EFL Cup thanks to a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park on Wednesday 30 September against the Eagles.

An Eberechi Eze goal opened the scoring before Jhon Duran grabbed an equaliser just 15 minutes later.

The winning goal came from substitute Daichi Kamada after Carlos gave the ball away with a misplaced pass which eventually resulted in a defeat for Villa.

Even if the competition wasn’t a priority for Emery, he is likely to be frustrated by the defender making an error leading to a goal for the second time this season.

The Brazilian picked up the ball on the right-hand side of the box and appeared to have an easy option to pick out Kosta Nedeljkovic on the touchline.

Instead, the 31-year-old opted to fire a ball into John McGinn in the middle of the pitch and under pressure from the Japan international.

Considering that Carlos was under little pressure, other than the approaching Jean-Philippe Mateta, there was no reason to force a pass into the Villa captain.

Nonetheless, he took up this option which left the Scotland international stretching for the ball but with Kamada rushing in, it was always a risky pass.

The Palace midfielder picked up the ball before ghosting past Boubacar Kamara and picking out the far corner and leaving Joe Gauci with no chance.

This moment was deja vu for Villa fans who have already seen the centre back make a poor pass which has led to a goal this season.

The ex-Sevilla man was once again under no real pressure from the opposition as he looked to force the ball into the middle of the pitch rather than looking out wide.

This left Amadou Onana under all sorts of pressure from Matheus Cunha who ultimately took aim from range and found the bottom corner, it is unclear how much longer Emery will put up with this.

One thing that will please the Spaniard is his 91 per cent pass accuracy which saw him complete 58 passes across his 73 touches [FotMob].

With that being said, it was one of these passes which ultimately lost the game for the Villans.

Defensively, the centre half wasn’t exactly perfect as he registered a tackle completion rate of just 33 per cent but did complete three clearances and two blocks.

The Brazilian did win the majority of his duels with a 71 per cent win rate, that was as good as it got for the defender.

Given that Tyrone Mings made his return from a long-term injury against Palace, you would expect Carlos to be the better of the two but that was not the case.

Emery will be pulling his hair out with simple mistakes being made especially as it resulted in a first defeat since August.
