Bryan King expects that Jhon Duran’s earnings will “be on par” with Ollie Watkins after the striker signed a brand-new contract with Aston Villa.
The ex-Villa scout believes any interested clubs will need to hand over “big money” to sign Duran after he agreed fresh terms in the West Midlands.
Aston Villa announced via their official website on Monday (7 October) that the 20-year-old has signed a new deal which runs until 2030.
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – claims the Colombian would have received a big pay rise.
“This contract runs until 2030,” King said.
“Therefore, his wages must have gone way up. He will certainly be on par with Watkins and the other highest earners at the club.
“If any club tries to sign him now, then Villa can control his future. Any club will have to pay big money to sign Duran now.”

Duran looked close to leaving Aston Villa this summer. Therefore, this latest contract extension represents quite a turn of events, while it also suggests Duran won’t be sold anytime soon, despite recent speculation he might be.
It is hard to imagine that the 20-year-old would commit himself to the club for six years unless the terms were very favourable.
King recently predicted that Duran would demand a big pay increase at the club.
Therefore, after this latest announcement, it is safe to assume that those demands were most likely met.
However, Unai Emery now finds himself in a tricky spot. Duran is yet to start a Premier League game for Villa this season, despite his incredible form and recent calls for him to do so.
As a result, now that he has committed his future to the club, he will be expecting to receive plenty more first-team opportunities. In addition, there will likely be pressure from the club on Emery to play Duran, if they’re paying the player as much as King expects they are.
Therefore, Emery needs to find a way to get the striker into the team. Otherwise, he could have questions to answer from multiple people.
