Bryan King expects Jhon Duran to demand a wage increase at Aston Villa amid recent transfer speculation.

The ex-Villa scout believes the striker's "wonderful" run of form is a good thing for Unai Emery.

As reported by TEAMtalk (3 October), Chelsea remain interested in signing Duran, although Villa have now slapped a minimum price tag of £80million on the 20-year-old.

And King - speaking exclusively to Villa News - feels this could encourage Duran to make fresh demands.

"I'd say this sends a big message," King said.

"However, I now expect that the player and his agent will be demanding bigger wages. They will argue that if Duran is worth £80million they want the wages to match it.

"That is usually the next step when a player's value suddenly increases from £40million to £80million. However, overall his wonderful form can only be a good thing for the club."

Jhon Duran to demand big-money wage increase at Aston Villa?

Duran is Villa's top scorer this season, despite having made just one start in all competitions.

Therefore, he will no doubt be aware that his stock is rising, and he will want to be paid accordingly. There is every chance that Duran could leave the club in 2025 (via Fabrizio Romano, 27 September).

However, this latest move from Villa suggests they don't want that to happen. If the club value him that highly, it demonstrates that they are well aware of his worth.

Whether or not they match that in his wages remains to be seen. However, if they are to have any chance of keeping hold of him, Emery must find a way to start offering him regular starts.
