Morgan Rogers to face Aston Villa axe v Bayern Munich despite what happened on Sunday

Morgan Rogers could be the subject of a harsh decision ahead of a Champions League clash between Aston Villa and Bayern Munich on Wednesday (2 October).

The 22-year-old finally netted his first goal of the new campaign as Unai Emery’s side drew 2-2 with Ipswich Town in an enthralling Premier League battle at Portman Road.

Liam Delap scored the opening goal for the home side before Rogers and Ollie Watkins hit back to turn the match on its head, all before Delap secured his brace in the 72nd minute.

While the Villans are sitting in fifth place after six matches, Emery may be concerned by the number of goals being conceded, especially against the likes of Luton, Everton and Leicester City.

Though there are few choices to make in defence, one decision that the manager could make ahead of the clash with Bayern could be to leave Rogers out, sadly.

Morgan Rogers to be dropped ahead of Aston Villa v Bayern Munich?

Although he now has one goal and two assists in his last two appearances, his inability to keep possession or win the ball back could be what sees him dropped for the Champions League clash.

Villa are certainly the underdogs heading to the clash, and after winning just 17 per cent of his ground duels against Ipswich on Sunday (2/12), Emery might go for a different approach [FotMob].

Other than the goal, Rogers’ display could have improved in several areas, having only completed 33 per cent of his dribbles, getting dispossessed five times and making three fouls in the middle of the park.

In the Bundesliga, Bayern have the highest average possession with 69.4 per cent [FotMob]. When Villa finally get possession, they need to ensure their players can keep hold of the ball and push the team forward.

The 22-year-old ranks in the bottom 10 percentile for passes attempted and the bottom 44 percentile for pass completion [FBref], so while a spot on the bench may seem harsh, it would be for tactical reasons and nothing else.
