Jhon Duran to start for Aston Villa v Wycombe Wanderers in early team news
Bryan King expects Jhon Duran to start for Aston Villa in the third round of the Carabao Cup against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday (24 September).
The ex-Villa scout believes Unai Emery’s side have a chance of winning the entire competition.
Duran is yet to start a match for Villa this season. However, he has appeared in all six of the club’s matches off the bench, scoring four goals.
Therefore, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – feels the 20-year-old will make his first start of the season at Adams Park Stadium.
“I’m sure Duran will play against Wycombe Wanderers,” King said.
“I think he will start to be honest. In addition, I think there will be a decent sprinkle of so-called ‘first-team players’ in the starting lineup.
“This competition is a chance for Emery to use some fringe players as starters. However, it is important to remember that the Carabao Cup is still a trophy.
“There hasn’t been a trophy at Aston Villa for a long time. Therefore, any silverware would be a welcome relief for supporters.
“As a result, if you have a chance of winning it, which Villa do, then get out there and do the job because it gets interesting in the next rounds.”

Duran has scored four times in 161 minutes this season. That is a goal every 40 minutes and 25 seconds, which is truly incredible.
Therefore, Emery needs to use this match against Wycombe Wanderers as an opportunity to rest Ollie Watkins and hand Duran a well-earned start.

The striker is on fire at the moment, and squad rotation will be important this season given the increased number of matches Villa will need to play, which John McGinn recently expressed concerns about.
In other Aston Villa news, the club have been handed a boost after a “significant” PSR update.
