Morgan Rogers superb in Aston Villa comeback v Wolves as ‘excellent’ footage emerges on Match of the Day

Ashley Williams has been left wowed by Morgan Rogers after his assist and performance for Aston Villa against Wolves.

The England Under 21 international got his first two-goal involvements of the season for the Villans as another comeback win was secured at Villa Park.

Goals from Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa and Jhon Duran were enough to take all three points from their West Midlands rivals on Saturday 21 September.

Rogers impressed with one moment as he contributed heavily to taking a win against Gary O’Neil’s side.

The versatile forward has been one of the best players in claret and blue this season and he has deserved a goal or an assist for his troubles.

Rogers was picked out by Williams live on Match of the Day on 21 September as he supplied Duran for Villa’s third goal of the afternoon.

He said: “Rogers was excellent. He has had an excellent start to the season. Good run into the channel, has he got the composure and quality? Yes, he has to set up his mate Duran.

“He takes a little look, it looks like an easy ball but we see those messed up every week so really good positive second half.”

This assist was one of 27 passes that the 22-year-old completed with an 82 per cent accuracy with of them going into two into the final third [FotMob].

The former Manchester City man was heavily involved throughout as he registered 50 touches with eight coming in the Wolves’ penalty area.

As has been typical of his game since his move from Middlesbrough, the forward completed two dribbles on the day with one resulting in his assist for Watkins to level the game.

Unai Emery will be thrilled to have seen him help out defensively as he put up a 100 per cent tackle completion rate while also contributing with another four defensive actions.

It was a positive performance from the Villans with Rogers deserving of praise for his impact to help win the game.
