Diego Carlos slammed as footage emerges from Aston Villa v Wolves

Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos needs to be brought off at half-time after what he did against Wolves on 21 September.

The Brazil international, while playing out from the back, made a school-boy error that gifted a goal to the hosts.

Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha took advantage of the error and opened the scoring for his side.

Speaking about the incident, commentator Daz Hale said on BBC Radio West Midlands (3:26pm, 21 September): “A blunder defensively from Aston Villa and Cunha exacts a full price driving the ball home after Carlos had coughed up possession on the edge of the penalty area.

“Careless again by Aston Villa, though. I have to say you play out from the back, you have to make sure your passes get to where you need them to get to. He’s looking to find Onana but he’s given the ball away.”

According to Sofascore, apart from the error that led to the goal, he’s also lost possession on five occasions, much to Unai Emery’s annoyance.

The 31-year-old also has a zero per cent pass accuracy rate with his long passes as he’s not been in his groove in the first 45 minutes.

He’s also made zero tackles or interceptions – two key aspects for a defender – and it’s not just his passing that’s been an issue.

The Brazilian has also looked nervy on the ball and despite his pass accuracy of 88 per cent, it’s been far from smooth sailing for him.

With Kosta Nedeljkovic on the bench, Emery can bring him in and move Ezri Konsa to a more accustomed centre-back position.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Spaniard does actually make that call or if he continues with the same side.
