Club record broken as Aston Villa Women announce Gabi Nunes signing

Aston Villa Women have signed Gabi Nunes on a two-year deal from Levante, the club have announced.

The Brazil international has become the Villans’ ninth signing of the summer transfer window, signing from the Liga F side on 13 September in what the Birmingham Mail said is a club-record £250,000 deal.

The 27-year-old has completed a move to Villa Park after one season in Spain, having played for Brazilian sides Corinthians and Madrid CFF in the past.

Speaking on the club website, the Head of Women’s Football, Lee Billiard said: “We are delighted to welcome Gabi to Aston Villa.”

“She is a talented player who brings plenty of experience at both domestic and international level. Gabi is a player we believe can make an impact in the WSL as well as add further depth to our squad.”

The Villans were already well stocked in the forward line but Robert de Pauw has opted to bring in another attacking option.

With Rachel Daly and Adriana Leon already at the club, and reinforced by the likes of Krissy Grant, there are great forward options at Villa Park for the new WSL season.

Adding the quality of Nunes to the squad can only be a positive for the side given the pedigree she can add.

The Brazilian scored 16 goals across 34 appearances in all competitions [FotMob] in her debut campaign in Spain which saw her called up for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The former Corinthians star has the versatility to feature as a striker or as a winger, which will complement the Villans’ squad well.

It is yet to see how De Pauw will set up his side and how Nunes will fit in but there is plenty to be excited about for the new campaign.
