Aston Villa close to Enzo Barrenechea loan agreement before transfer deadline
Valencia are interested in signing Enzo Barrenechea on loan from Aston Villa, according to Matteo Moretto.
The Spanish journalist reported via his personal X account [28 August] that the La Liga side are facing competition from other clubs, but the 23-year-old Argentinian prefers Valencia.
It is understood that Valencia are in a close position with the Villans to seal a loan deal for the midfielder, who only arrived at Villa Park from Juventus this summer.
Enzo Barrenachea set for Aston Villa loan exit?
Both players who arrived from the Old Lady, Samuel Iling-Junior and Barrenechea, are now set to be away from Villa Park before the summer transfer window slams shut on 30 August.
The duo joined Unai Emery’s team as part of the deal which saw Douglas Luiz sign for Juventus, but it appears now that they are surplus to requirement as the manager prepares for the new season.
Iling-Junior put on some positive displays during Villa’s pre-season, though he was unable to make his debut before being sent on loan to Bologna, with Barrenechea about to seal the same fate.
The Argentine made 39 appearances for Frosinone last season, notching just one assist and picking up 10 yellow cards, so the Villans may feel he needs more experience before joining the senior squad.
With Valencia keen on making the deal happen, and only two days until the transfer window closes, it seems that a loan is not too far away for the 23-year-old, though fans will be disappointed to see another new signing depart.
However, with Emery’s midfield already containing John McGinn, Youri Tielemans, Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley, and still Boubacar Kamara to return from injury, the middle of the park is stacked with talent.
The Villans will be hoping that one campaign in Spain will give Barrenechea the necessary experience to come back to Villa Park next season and fight for a spot in the squad.
