Unai Emery to end Aston Villa transfer pursuit if ‘ultimate target’ doesn’t sign
Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa won’t sign anyone else if Unai Emery doesn’t sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.
Fabrizio Romano reported on 26 July that the Portugal international is “the ultimate target” for the Villa boss during the transfer window.
After the 24-year-old featured for Atleti in their two most recent preseason friendlies, there is concern that the forward could now stay with the La Liga giants.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that the Villans will not move on to other targets if they don’t sign Felix.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It’s difficult to put forward anyone else Villa would sign.
“Emery has shown that if he doesn’t get the player that he wants, he’s quite happy to move forward with what he already has.
“In the number ten position, Rogers has played there quite a lot in preseason. Bailey, Ramsey, McGinn and Tielemans could all play in that number ten role.
“I do feel that if they don’t get Felix like Emery wants, they won’t just sign someone else for the sake of it.“

Ever since coming in at Villa Park, the general rule has been: what Emery wants, Emery gets.
It now appears that Monchi and Co. are doing their utmost to give the Spaniard what he wants during the transfer window ahead of the Premier League season.
With less than two weeks until the campaign opener against West Ham, the Villans will want the majority of their signings done as soon as possible.
A deal for Felix will take some time but maybe sped up by Diego Simeone’s side’s signing of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.
Villa will hold out for the forward and if they don’t get him, Emery will show faith in the players already at his disposal.
