Aston Villa backed to sign João Félix as Atletico Madrid forward gives green light to transfer
Noel Egan has backed Aston Villa to complete the signing of Atletico Madrid forward João Félix.
The ex-FIFA official and lifetime Villa supporter believes the Portugal international could form a “dynamic” partnership with Ollie Watkins.
As reported by Spanish journalist Héctor Gómez via X (7 August), Félix has given the green light for Villa to press ahead with a transfer offer.
And Egan – speaking exclusively to Villa News – is hopeful that a deal can be struck.
“He failed to impress previously in the Premier League with Chelsea,” Egan said.
“However, that was a Chelsea team which was going through a transition. I think Félix would be a great asset for the Villa.
“He would also help take some of the pressure off of Ollie Watkins, who was having to play more or less every minute toward the end of last season.
“You could see that the fatigue was impacting him during the run-in. Therefore, by signing a player like Félix to play alongside Watkins, that could be quite the dynamic duo.”
Aston Villa to sign João Félix from Atletico Madrid?
Félix would cost the club a lot of money. However, if he can rediscover his best form at Villa Park, it would be a statement signing for Unai Emery.
Heading into the UEFA Champions League this is the calibre of player that Villa need to be targeting.

Félix has experience at the highest level and could help some of those more inexperienced Villa players to make the transition to European football’s biggest stage.
In other Aston Villa news, the club have been backed to sign an “outstanding” big-name player amid a £17million transfer update.
