Unai Emery wants Diego Carlos sold to avoid Aston Villa PSR breach amid Fulham transfer update

Bryan King believes Aston Villa will be considering allowing Diego Carlos to join Fulham before the transfer deadline.

The ex-Villa scout doesn’t think the Brazillian has a future under Unai Emery in the West Midlands.

As reported by the Daily Mail (2 August), Fulham have expressed an interest in Carlos with the player open to a move away from Villa Park for more starting opportunities.

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – claims a transfer would be beneficial for all parties involved.

“I think Emery has made his mind up about the player,” King said.

“It doesn’t look as though Carlos is going to be a key part of the first-team squad. Therefore, any business that is going to bring in half-decent money for the player, Villa must be looking at that.

“They have also been spending money and won’t want to breach any profit and sustainability rules. As a result, I would imagine that this deal would be beneficial for Villa, Carlos and Fulham.”

Aston Villa to allow Diego Carlos to join Fulham?

Carlos is a high-earner at Villa Park, with the centre-back being paid around £100,000-per-week by the club (via The Telegraph, 20 May).

He started just 20 times in the Premier League last season, playing 38 times in all competitions.

Carlos has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular since he arrived from Sevilla, with a ruptured Achilles tendon injury derailing his time at the club.

Therefore, considering the amount of money he is earning, it might be wise for Villa to cut ties with the 31-year-old if they want to keep within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
