Nico Williams set for Aston Villa transfer decision after Euro 2024 masterclass
Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa will miss out on signing Nico Williams after his performances at EURO 2024.
The Athletic Bilbao star shone for Spain, scoring his second goal of the tournament in the final against England.
After this, TEAMtalk reported on 16 July that the Villans are looking to rival Barcelona and Chelsea to sign the 22-year-old from the La Liga side.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes Williams will choose a move to Camp Nou over Villa Park this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It’s a shame Villa didn’t get a deal over the line a year ago.
“His stock has gone too high and now he looks set for Barcelona after what he did at the EUROs.
“Villa identified him before he became a superstar and that’s a sensible strategy but unfortunately it didn’t get over the line.
“It is hard enough to get players out of Bilbao anyway but when Barcelona are knocking it becomes an even harder sell. It’s now a move that is never going to happen for Villa.“
Nico Williams to reject Aston Villa for Barcelona
There is no doubt that the Spanish international would represent an excellent signing for the Villans if they could persuade him to join.
Williams was one of the shining lights in the European Championships which saw him earn a place in the Team of the Tournament [UEFA].
With that being said, his performances may have propelled him to a club, a level above Villa if he is to secure a summer transfer.
Unai Emery has also shown an interest in Joao Felix who could prove to be an alternative to the Bilbao star.

Either of the two attackers could prove to be a replacement option for Moussa Diaby who has been linked to Saudi Arabia.
