Aston Villa to agree settlement figure with Philippe Coutinho after official transfer announcement
Bryan King expects Aston Villa to agree a settlement figure with Philippe Coutinho for the midfielder’s release next summer.
The ex-Villa scout claims the 32-year-old’s career appears to be coming to an end.
As per Aston Villa via X (10 July), Coutinho has rejoined Vasco da Gama on a season-long loan.
The Brazillian still has two years left on his Villa deal, and King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes the player could become a free agent next summer.
“Villa will be trying to get any form of payment they can for him,” King said.
“However, I think the club will need to release him next summer. I imagine there will be an agreement over a settlement figure of some sort.
“It seems like his career is coming to an end and I’d imagine he will end up playing in Saudi Arabia soon.”
Aston Villa must find a solution for Philippe Coutinho
Villa will be desperate to get Coutinho off their books.
The midfielder’s move to the club has been nothing short of a failure with the ex-Liverpool and Barcelona playmaker not even kicking a ball for the club since the 2022/23 season.
Villa are likely to be helping Vasco da Gama by paying some of Coutinho’s wages, and this season-long loan is only a temporary solution.
The player will return to the club next summer, and Villa will want him gone.
With a big-money move for a 33-year-old in the final year of his contract highly unlikely, the club could therefore look to release him.
