Legal verdict emerges after Premier League warning over Aston Villa transfers

Dan Plumley has insisted that there isn’t much the Premier League can do after sending a warning over specific transfer deals, including Aston Villa.

The Premier League has warned clubs that they are closely monitoring certain deals after multiple deals were announced ahead of the June 30 PSR deadline [The Mirror].

The football finance expert admitted that Chelsea signing Omari Kellyman for £19million was an example, but not much can be done without fully changing the regulations.

“It’s logical,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“If you look at some of the clubs that have been involved in some of these transfers and the Kellyman one is an example, but there are others that are interlinked, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Everton are in there.

These are the clubs that we think, from the outside looking in were sailing close to the wind with PSR, so the Premier League will put all clubs at watch of this, but it will be aimed at some clubs, more so than others.

At first, I think that is really tricky with where the regulation is at because there is nothing being done that is wrong on a legal sense, it’s fine to sell players and it’s fine to sell homegrown players for a pure accounting profit.

The issue that the Premier League will be looking at is are these deals done at fair market value, but that is tough with player valuations so it is a really tricky one and the Premier League will put clubs on watch.

Is there anything the Premier League can really do to change the way this looks, without fully changing the regulations?”

Premier League warning on Aston Villa transfer

Aston Villa have done nothing wrong, and they wouldn’t have sanctioned any transfers if they were at risk of doing so in the Premier League.

With points deductions for Everton and Nottingham Forest last season, making sure the club were clean with PSR was a priority before June 30.

That was sorted, and now it is time to move forward.
