Ezri Konsa tipped to start for England v Netherlands – Aston Villa Expert

Ty Bracey believes that Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa should keep his England starting XI place in the Euro 2024 semi-final after his showing v Switzerland.

The Villa man filled in for Marc Guehi who missed the quarter-final after accumulating too many yellow cards in previous games.

Despite going one down, the Three Lions equalised and managed to secure a place in the final four on penalties.

Gareth Southgate’s side are now preparing for a clash against the Netherlands on Wednesday (10 July) and Villa podcaster Bracey believes Konsa should keep his spot.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “He was cool calm and collected, he didn’t put a foot wrong.

There were plenty of people raving about him after the game saying he looked good. That’s just Ezri Konsa. He rarely steps out of line and has been great for Villa for years.

I don’t think he should lose his place against the Netherlands, I don’t think he did anything wrong to lose his place.

It isn’t like Marc Guehi has done anything wrong but Konsa does have European football experience in the latter stages. That could pip it but I don’t think there’s a wrong decision there.

Konsa has only gotten better for Villa since the arrival of Unai Emery which has seen him play in multiple positions.

The 26-year-old featured heavily as a right-back last campaign and excelled despite being a centre-back by trade.

For England, he came in as a left centre-back and didn’t look out of place, slotting in alongside John Stones with ease and will have been frustrated to have conceded.

Southgate does like to keep consistency in his starting XI’s and as a result, could favour a return for Guehi for the semi-final.

Whether or not Konsa is called upon for the Three Lions in their EUROs clash, he has already done himself and Villa proud on the international stage.
