Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa slammed after what he did v Switzerland
Bryan King was not impressed by Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa’s performance for England against Switzerland on Saturday (6 July).
The ex-Villa scout claims the 26-year-old looked “vulnerable” at times against the Swiss.
Konsa started as England drew 1-1 with Switzerland in their 2024 UEFA European Championship quarter-final.
The Three Lions would eventually qualify for the semi-final after a 5-3 penalty shootout victory.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – was not impressed by Konsa’s display.
“I thought he was pretty average against Switzerland,” King said.
“I wasn’t overly impressed by his display, to be honest. He has done well to get himself into the England squad in the first place.
“But for me, he just never had a big impact on the game. He did his job, but he also looked vulnerable at times.”
Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa criticised after his performance for England
Konsa was put in a difficult situation against Switzerland.
The defender had played less than 20 minutes of football at the tournament before being drafted in for his first start in the quarter-final.
Marc Guéhi’s suspension left Gareth Southgate with little choice but to start Konsa. However, despite a few shaky moments, the centre-back will feel as though he did well under the circumstances.
Most importantly, England won the match, even if it wasn’t in the most convincing fashion.

While Guéhi is likely to slot straight back in against the Netherlands on Wednesday (10 July), Konsa will take some delight in knowing that he has played a part in Germany.
And if Southgate needs to call upon the Aston Villa defender again, he will feel slightly more confident about doing so.
