Aston Villa to bid for Brentford striker Ivan Toney after £35m transfer update

Bryan King claims Aston Villa could make a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

The ex-Villa scout believes the sale of Jhon Duran could help raise funds for the club to sign a high-profile player.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (9 July), West Ham have submitted a £35million bid, which includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause, for Duran.

Negotiations are now underway with the 20-year-old having already agreed personal terms with the Hammers.

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – feels this transfer could help Unai Emery’s side make an exciting signing.

“I could certainly see Duran signing for West Ham,” King said.

“With the money Villa raise from his sale as well as other sales, that could open the door for the club to bid for Toney or a player of that nature.

“It doesn’t look as if Duran is going to be a regular under Emery if the club are considering selling him. Therefore, this transfer might be best for all parties involved.”

Could Aston Villa sign Ivan Toney from Brentford to compete with Ollie Watkins?

Some Villa supporters might not think they need Toney.

However, with the club set to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season, having two high-quality strikers on the books might not be such a bad thing.

While Ollie Watkins would likely still start most games, there would be plenty of opportunities for Toney to contribute.

Emery could also perhaps find a way to play both players alongside each other.

Therefore, if Duran is to be sold, reinvesting the money into a high-profile player such as Toney might be wise.
