Joao Felix is ‘perfect signing’ for Aston Villa after transfer news

Dan Bardell believes that Joao Felix would be a great signing for Aston Villa but thinks they may struggle to strike a deal this summer.

A report from FootballTransfers (4 July) has suggested that the Villans could go head-to-head with Benfica to sign the forward from Atletico Madrid.

Unai Emery is said to be an admirer of the 24-year-old which could see Villa move to sign him after spending lasts season on loan with Barcelona.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks a deal may be difficult to strike but is excited about the prospect of signing the Portuguese international.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It is the exact same as last summer, being linked with Joao Felix again.

I think his agent is someone that Villa are keen to work with and have been previously. Felix is a player that Emery likes but in saying all that I still think it will be a difficult move to sort.

Does he want to play in the Premier League again? It didn’t go brilliantly for him at Chelsea.

For the right money, I think he would be the perfect signing because he is undoubtedly a top-level player. He’d allow Villa to play in a different way and he’s versatile enough to fill various positions.

I’d absolutely love that transfer to happen.

Aston Villa interested in Joao Felix

The Villans aren’t necessarily in desperate need of attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window with the options they already have available.

In Emery’s system, there is typically two available roles for attacking options surrounding the prolific Ollie Watkins.

Last season that was often Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey with the latter in particular electric form throughout the campaign.

Felix could pose more competition for the Frenchman as he featured regularly as a somewhat second striker alongside Watkins.

The Portuguese forward has had a mixed bag of a career in recent years having burst onto the scene with Benfica in 2018.

Under the tutelage of Emery, Felix could come closer to his best form although after his relationship with Diego Simeone deteriorated, something similar could happen at Villa Park.
