There had been some concerns building amongst Villa fans that the recruitment process for a new manager was taking some time.

After Ward had been in the role for three years, it was going to be a tough task to replace the impact she had on the Women’s side.

The club have chosen de Pauw as the man to lead them forward with the hope of having a better season after finishing seventh last time out.

He has experienced success in the women’s game after managing FC Twente to an Eredivisie league title and cup double in 2022.

The 42-year-old has also managed as a youth coach in the Dutch FA setup, showing his ability to improve and develop young players.
