Aston Villa shock emerges as Samuel Iling Jr prepares to undergo medical on Tuesday

Bryan King is surprised by the deal Aston Villa have agreed with Juventus for Douglas Luiz.

The ex-Villa scout claims Unai Emery’s side should have received a much larger fee plus Samuel Iling Jr and Enzo Barrenechea for Luiz.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (24 June), Iling Jr will undergo his Villa medical on Tuesday (25 June).

Meanwhile, Barrenechea and Luiz will do their medicals this week ahead of the player-plus-cash deal being sealed.

However, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – feels Juventus have got the better deal.

“He is a good player, Luiz, he is a big-name player,” King said.

“I would have thought the deal would be structured so that Villa would receive a bigger fee plus the two players.

“I am surprised that the two players they have received are worth as much as they are. This deal doesn’t sound right to me at all.

“Villa should have received £50million plus the two players, that would have been a fair deal.”

Did Juventus get a better deal than Aston Villa for Douglas Luiz?

It is hard to argue against the suggestion that Juventus have come out the better of the two clubs.

Villa have received a relatively small fee and two unproven players in exchange for a player who was arguably one of the main reasons they qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Iling Jr and Barrenechea could end up lighting up the Premier League and proving any doubters wrong.

However, at this moment in time, it feels like Villa perhaps could have negotiated Luiz’s exit slightly better.
