Conor Gallagher background transfer talks taking place amid latest Aston Villa new

Conor Gallagher’s representatives will be holding background transfer talks while he is at Euro 2024 amid links to Aston Villa, Alan Hutton has said.

The Chelsea midfielder has long-been linked with a Stamford Bridge exit as they can record his sale as pure profit due to the fact he has come through the academy, with Tottenham and Villa among those most heavily linked.

When quizzed on his future prior to Euro 2024, Gallagher insisted he was giving it no thought as his concentration was on England duty (BBC Sport, 13 June).

Hutton – speaking to Villa News – said while that might be true it is almost inevitable talks have happening behind-the-scenes.

The former Villa defender said: “I would like to see it especially if Douglas Luiz goes, his energy levels, what he brings on the pitch, even his leadership skills with being relatively young.

“I understand him saying the right things where i’m not going to talk about it or concentrate on it while the Euros are on but look I’m sure there’ll be talks going on in the background he just won’t want to tell anybody.

“You’ve got (Boubacar) Kamara to come back into the midfield, John McGinn’s still there, you could have somebody like Gallagher in there, it does fill you with happiness thinking you’re going up a level in my opinion especially going into the Champions League.

“So, we’ll see, it’s a lot of money, the problem is he’ll have other options so we’ll have to wait and see.”

Will Conor Gallagher swap Chelsea for Aston Villa?

While there has been plenty of talk of a Stamford Bridge exit there has been little noise or indication from Gallagher himself that he wants to move on.

The could, of course, change after the Euros but if England go deep in the tournament Chelsea won’t be as keen to cash-in anyway as the deadline for Profit and Sustainability accounts (30 June) will have passed.

So, the rumours might be maintained but it is not set in stone that Gallagher will be on the move this summer and Villa won’t want to waste too much time on a deal that might not happen.

On the flip side, if they get any indication at all that a sale is possible then they absolutely should be all they can to sign him.
