Douglas Luiz move to Juventus hits wall in new Aston Villa transfer developments

Douglas Luiz’s move from Aston Villa to Juventus could be hitting the wall as difficulties have emerged, according to Alan Hutton.

The Brazilian midfielder has been linked with a move to the Serie A giants in a move that would see Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior move in the opposite direction, with Fabrizio Romano reporting (13 June) that personal terms have been agreed and Villa will also receive around £16.8million as part of the deal.

However, the Telegraph reported (18 June) that McKennie has yet to agree exit terms with Juve, while Tuttosport reported (15 June) that Iling-Junior is seeking assurances over his playing time.

Former Villans defender, speaking exclusively to Villa News, thinks that all the moving parts involved with the deal could see the transfer fall through.

He said: “Yeah (I heard about Iling-Junior), but I’ve seen McKennie as well that’s maybe hitting a wall, they’re talking about wages and different things.

“This is the problem, if you’re trying to sell your players for £50million and you agree a £50million fee you say there’s the player, talk wages and move on.

“When you start talking about players being involved, what if they want assurances? How much game time am I getting? What’s my wages going to be? Or maybe it’s I don’t want to be at that club.

“Then it just blows the deal out of the water, it becomes interesting for us but difficult for the club.

“I don’t think any player other than your highest of highs bracket come in and get assurances of playing, you have to come in show your worth and go from there, so it’s a difficult one.”

Aston Villa face uncertainty over Douglas Luiz Juventus deal

With Villa facing uncertainty over their Profit and Sustainability threshold, they will want clarity on whether this deal can get over the line as soon as possible.

While it would be a blow to lose Luiz, the beauty of this deal is that they were getting two replacements plus cash so overall they could end up in a stronger position.

But it is tough to give Iling-Junior the assurances he wants, while any dealings between McKennie and Juve are also out of the club’s hands.

In other words, what once looked like a sure fire deal is now perhaps not quite so cut and dry, as Hutton alluded to.
