Aston Villa agree deal for new signing, six-year contract in place – David Ornstein

Aston Villa have now reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Ian Maatsen, according to David Ornstein.

The transfer specialist has reported (19 June) that the deal is worth “just north” of his £35 million release clause specific to Borussia Dortmund.

This clause has now expired which is likely to have put the Champions League finalists off signing the 22-year-old this summer.

The Villans now have “personal terms in place” ahead of signing the Dutchman to a six-year contract.

Aston Villa ease closer to Ian Maatsen signing

Villa have shown an interest in signing Maatsen ever since Jhon Duran entered talks with Chelsea over a potential £40m move [The Guardian].

Now it appears that the left-back is going to move to Villa Park regardless of a deal for the Colombian this summer.

He spent the second half of last season with Dortmund and certainly caught the eye with his performances.

Maatsen played a key role as the Bundesliga giants reached the Champions League final where they were defeated by Real Madrid.

He is a dynamic full-back and at just 22-years-old has plenty of room to grow and develop under Unai Emery next season.

This could spell the end for one of Lucas Digne or Alex Moreno, with the latter linked with a return to Real Betis already this window.

It is safe to say that this is a great start to the window for Monchi and the Villans, fans will have to wait for potential sales, like Douglas Luiz, ahead of 30 June.
