Matty Cash behind-the-scenes issues mooted at Aston Villa as £17m exit news emerges

Bryan King has suggested something might have gone on behind the scenes between Matty Cash and Aston Villa.

The ex-Villa scout claims it is unlikely that the player himself would want to leave the club after they qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

It comes after Calcio Mercato reported (9 June) that AC Milan hold an interest in Cash, who is valued at £17million by Villa.

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has suggested why the club might be willing to sell the right-back.

“It seems strange to me that Cash would want to leave,” King said.

“He has a chance to play in the Champions League next season. That is what players strive for, a chance to play in the Champions League.

“Therefore, maybe something has gone on behind the scenes at the club and that is why Villa want to sell him.”

Will Matty Cash quit Aston Villa and join AC Milan this summer?

Villa are heading in the right direction, and this therefore does seem like an odd time for a player to seek a move away.

It is unlikely that Cash would be earning more money at the San Siro and it could be argued that playing in the Serie A is less appealing than playing in the Premier League.

Therefore, all signs point toward these exit rumours coming from Villa rather than the player himself.

Perhaps Villa are keen to sell Cash to raise some money to reinvest in the squad. However, there are a few other players who would likely be sacrificed first.

If there has been some tension behind the scenes, then selling the defender would be smart.
