Aston Villa to accept ‘ridiculous’ offer for Ollie Watkins as PSR update emerges
Bryan King believes Aston Villa would only entertain a “ridiculous” offer for Ollie Watkins.
The ex-Villa scout claims the club won’t have any interest in selling any of their big-name stars this summer.
It comes after a report in Birmingham Live (8 June) suggested that the club are at risk of a PSR breach.
But King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – thinks Watkins is still unlikely to be sacrificed.
“I don’t think they will sell their best players,” King said.
“But there are players in the squad who would be available, and Villa need to sell before they can buy.
“I don’t think Watkins will leave unless it is ridiculous money. It would be the wrong time to sell him.
“There are players who could raise decent money, but what kind of money will they need to generate?”
Aston Villa and Unai Emery will be desperate to keep hold of Ollie Watkins
With UEFA Champions League football to come next season, Villa should be thinking about strengthening Unai Emery’s squad, not weakening it.
However, sales will need to be made, there is no getting away from that.
The Premier League’s current profit and sustainability rules mean a club is permitted losses of £105million over three years.
Villa are living dangerously close to that line and their financial year is set to come to an end on 30 June.

That means sales will likely need to be made before that point.
However, there will surely be plenty of players who are moved on before Watkins’ name is considered.
So long as the striker is still a Villa player come July, supporters can safely assume that he won’t be going anywhere this summer.
In other Aston Villa news, the club are to reach a compromise with one big-name star amid a behind-the-scenes drama.
