Aston Villa transfer claim emerges on Lucas Digne amid recent fitness woes

Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne faces a growing risk of injury issues ahead of the 2024/25 season, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that considering his injury as he has faced fitness setbacks this past campaign, the club may decide to move him on in the summer.

According to the Athletic on 4 June, £120,000k/week player could be shown the door at Villa Park this summer.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientisttold Villa News:

Considering his injury history and wages, I imagine the club will try to move off him if they find a suitable replacement.

In terms of his fitness, it is difficult because previous injuries are the greatest predictor of future injury – especially muscular ones.

“He will have to be even more committed to his on and off pitch habits to try and regain consistent matches and match fitness.

“He’s also on the wrong side of 30 which is not ideal as the average player is past his peak by then.”

A Lucas Digne sale could be seen as good business for Aston Villa

The Villans may consider selling the France international due to his injury risk and age, as it’s unlikely they’ll get a better offer for him in the future.

The club’s cautious approach is influenced by his past injuries and the fact that he’s on the wrong side of 30, makes it pretty likely that he faces setbacks in the future.

Given these factors, moving Digne on now, when his value is relatively stable, could be a strategic financial decision for Villa, especially if they find a suitable replacement.
