Aston Villa stance on Weston McKennie mooted amid Juventus transfer news
Bryan King claims Aston Villa should be targeting a “higher standard” of player than Weston McKennie.
The ex-Villa scout believes the Juventus midfielder would benefit more from the move than the club.
It comes after a report in Tutto Juve (29 May) revealed that Villa are one of several clubs interested in McKennie.
But King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – feels that Unai Emery’s side should be aiming higher.
“McKennie would definitely benefit from a move to Aston Villa,” King said.
“But I am not so sure that Villa would benefit from signing him.
“I think Villa need a higher standard of player than McKennie, but perhaps he could prove me wrong.”
Would Weston McKennie improve Unai Emery’s Aston Villa midfield?
McKennie has featured regularly in the Serie A this year.
However, regardless of what he has done in Italy, it is difficult to ignore his previous time in England.
McKennie struggled to make an impact while on loan with Leeds United during the 2022/23 campaign.

The Whites would eventually be relegated, and it would probably be difficult to find any fans at Elland Road who have fond memories of the 25-year-old.
This might have been a more exciting link a few years ago, but with Villa in next season’s UEFA Champions League, they should be targeting different players.
In other Aston Villa news, a La Liga ace would prefer a switch to the club over a move to West Ham.
