Unai Emery could be forced to sell Jacob Ramsey against his wishes amid Aston Villa update

Ty Bracey believes Aston Villa will look to keep Jacob Ramsey this summer despite a disappointing season and FFP concerns.

After securing Champions League qualification this season, Unai Emery will be keen to develop a squad over the summer transfer window ready for Europe’s elite.

In order to make top-quality signings this summer, the Villans may be forced into selling players to fund transfers.

Tom Collomosse reported for the Daily Mail (15 May) that the Villa hierarchy don’t want to sell a “key asset” but must obey the Premier League rules.

Emery may look to sell Ramsey for up to £50 million over the summer if it becomes necessary.

Villa podcaster Bracey, who has featured on Claret & Blue, has backed Villa to keep hold of the Englishman despite a slow season.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I’d rather us keep Ramsey but if he’s sold, that’s what we’ve got to do. It’s what we’ve got to do.

I don’t think Emery has any intention of him leaving but if we can’t shift all the deadwood then we’ll have to see but he’s someone I’d like us to keep a hold of.

He’s not had the greatest season but that’s not down to him, it’s because of his injuries and things being a bit slow when he’s come back.

I feel for him because he’s had a bit of a tough year but we’ll see how that move unfolds over the window.

Should Aston Villa sell Jacob Ramsey?

Emery told Sky Sports News in the winter window (29 January): “I want to keep him here with us.”

Despite featuring only 16 times in the Premier League in an injury-hit campaign [FotMob] it is unlikely that the Villa managers’ opinion will have changed.

He scored just one goal and contributed one assist across 850 minutes before he was forced off against Luton in early March.

This ended his season and gave way to Morgan Rogers to feature more regularly who went on to be superb, until he also got injured.

Next season Emi Buendia will join Ramsey and Rogers into the first team fold for Emery which poses an exciting prospect.

Aston Villa

It must be said that FFP and PSR concerns do exist and will see the Villans move various fringe players this summer.

With Champions League football on the horizon, Villa need to prepare well and keep hold of their best players this summer.

Ramsey deserves a shot to show his best football once again under Emery especially with European football coming back to Villa Park.
