Aston Villa seal club-record deal in ‘Massive Upgrade’ – Finance Expert
Aston Villa have sealed a club-record deal with Adidas to be their new kit supplier in a “massive upgrade” on the Castore deal, according to Dan Plumley.
The club announced a multi-year partnership with the German sportswear giant from June 2024 (20 May), in a deal that will cover the men’s, women’s and youth team kits.
When asked about the deal, football finance expert Plumley revealed that while the figures have yet to be officially announced for a deal, it is worth far more than the £3million Castore deal that was previously in place, and it could potentially have clauses to earn even more after their Champions League qualification.
“It is likely to be a massive upgrade,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“We’ve not seen the figures confirmed yet, the club have said multi-million-pound deal. The previous deal with Castore was reportedly only about £3million per season, so you’d expect a big uplift on that for sure.
“You’d also probably expect the way that deal has played out, to have some negotiations in there around Champions League clauses which obviously of course now for Villa, if they’ve managed to put something in there around that and squeeze a bit more out of it if they did manage to qualify for the Champions League, then that would be good business sense as well.
“As I say we’ve not seen the overall figure yet but it’s a club-record deal, it’s multi-million pound and it will certainly far outweigh the previous deal that they had with Castore.”
Aston Villa rise up football rich list with Adidas agreement
Villa has been growing at an exponential rate in recent years since NSWE took over and replaced Steven Gerrard with Unai Emery.
From battling against relegation, the team have become European Cup semi-finalists and made it into the Champions League for next season, which has hugely boosted the profile of the club.
That performance on the pitch has allowed the club to be in a stronger negotiating position when it comes to sponsorships and their kit deal, and when you consider how bad the deal with Castore was on paper it’s perfect timing.

Villa will be able to spend more funds upgrading the squad this summer, and while they still have to be careful due to PSR and FFP regulations, the future looks bright.
NSWE have done a phenomenal job since taking over, and the more deals like this that can be struck the better things will get. Aston Villa fans have plenty to be excited about.
