Aston Villa tipped to sell Douglas Luiz for big money then complete cut-price midfield signing
Bryan King believes Douglas Luiz’s future at Aston Villa will impact whether or not Nicolo Zaniolo is signed permanently.
The ex-Villa scout feels that the club’s decision to sign Zaniolo will depend on what happens with Luiz this summer.
It comes after a report in Birmingham World (8 May) revealed that Unai Emery has alluded to the possibility of Zaniolo making his stay at Villa Park permanent, with the West-Midlands club able to sign the on-loan midfielder for £19million.
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes it will be a case of one or the other.
“I think this will all depend on what happens with Luiz,” King said.
“It will depend on whether he stays at Villa or they decide to sell him, that will be an interesting situation.
“Whether Zaniolo is signed will depend on whether or not Luiz stays. Selling one player for big money and bringing in another player for smaller money is always good business.”
Could Douglas Luiz quit life under Unai Emery at Aston Villa?
Luiz has been one of Villa’s key players this season.
Understandably, his form will lead to speculation about his future.
However, Emery and Villa should be confident of keeping hold of the Brazillian.

And even if Luiz does stay, there is no reason Zaniolo can’t be signed permanently.
The 24-year-old has proven himself to be a worthy squad player in recent months, and with Villa looking likely to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, they are going to need a bigger squad.
