Bryan King finds it "ridiculous" that Douglas Luiz has had to reaffirm his commitment to Aston Villa.

The ex-Villa scout sees no reason why Luiz would want to leave Villa Park.

It comes after the Brazillian midfielder spoke to DAZN Portugal amid speculation linking him with moves to Arsenal and Barcelona (via Birmingham Live, 9 April).

Luiz said, “We’re all very happy with how this season is going, especially me, with all the history that the club is building and for my goals and assists, too.

"Personally, I’m very happy with it all and I think it’s just the start of a new chapter. As I always say, Aston Villa is a huge club and we’re prepared to write a new chapter."

King - speaking exclusively to Villa News - feels that the focus should be on Luiz's football rather than his future.

"I think it is ridiculous. He signed for Aston Villa, a big football club, a club which is on the verge of the UEFA Champions League and he has to come out and confirm that he is happy," King said.

"Why shouldn't he be happy? He should be grateful for the position he is in, and he should focus on his football and his teammates. I have no time for these interviews.

"He wants to stay put? Good, then case closed."

Villa fans will be delighted to read that Luiz is happy at the club, but words are just one thing, with actions another.

Supporters at Villa Park won't need reminding of the Fabian Delph transfer saga, and they will hope that when the summer transfer window opens, Luiz isn't tempted by a move away.
