Matty Cash exit on the cards at Aston Villa, he’s not an Unai Emery player

Matty Cash could be replaced by Aston Villa in the summer as Ty Bracey doesn’t see him as the sort of player Unai Emery wants.

The Poland international has often been benched as Ezri Konsa has been preferred despite having to play out of position.

After giving away a penalty against Bournemouth, there has been some criticism levelled at Cash for his slapdash defending.

This does come in high contrast to just days before where he was the saviour as he scored against Lille to send the game to penalties.

Bracey believes that he could be let go by Emery in the summer transfer window as he looks to build towards a potential Champions League campaign.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “There’s lots of talk about Matty Cash and what the plan is going to be around him. I don’t think Matty Cash is a bad footballer, I think he’s alright.

He gets a lot of flack and do I think he’s an Unai Emery type of player? I don’t. So, I’m unsure. Potentially we’d need a right back in if Matty Cash doesn’t stay.

Should Aston Villa sell Matty Cash?

Cash signed for the Villans in 2020 in a £16m move [BBC] from Nottingham Forest who were in the Championship at the time.

Despite coming through their ranks as a midfielder and winger, he found his best form as a fullback.

This saw Dean Smith bring him to Villa Park where he has gone on to make 140 appearances for the club across a four-year spell.

He has made 27 Premier League appearances this season which has seen him score two goals and assist one [FotMob].

In an Emery system, the right back is often asked to stay back where possible and help form a back three while the left back gets forward.

This isn’t where Cash thrives and as a result, the Spanish manager has opted to play Konsa as a fullback in his 4-4-2 system.

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa
Ezri Konsa’s form for Aston Villa saw him make his England debut earlier this year.

If there is interest in the summer for the Pole’s signature, should a bid that the club find suitable then he could be let go.

With Kosta Nedeljkovic coming in, in January he will be an option that is considered by Emery.
