Unai Emery contract update as David Orntein shares ‘massive’ Aston Villa news

Unai Emery has signed a new contract to extend his stay at Aston Villa until 2027 in news which will come as a massive boost to the club, according to David Ornstein.

The Athletic journalist reported [23 April] that, amid links to managerial vacancies elsewhere, including at Barcelona, his commitment to Villa will end any speculation surrounding his position.

It is also said that further talks will take place this summer over yet another extension, with owners Nasef Sawirif and Wes Edens confident he can be their own version of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Orstein wrote for the online outlet: “Unai Emery has given Aston Villa a massive boost by extending his contract as head coach until 2027.”

With Jurgen Klopp set to leave Liverpool this summer and constant rumours flying about his replacement, Emery’s name had been mentioned in connection with the job, but any concern he may quit Villa Park to make that switch has now been eased.

Villa are currently on course to qualify for the Champions League as they sit in fourth place, six points above fifth-placed Tottenham (albeit with two games in hand) and have a superior goal difference to play to their advantage.

Having replaced Steven Gerrard in 2022, the progress Emery has made with this team has been staggering and his commitment to the club will not go unnoticed by the grateful fans who have seen their side work wonders this season.

The confidence that the boss could extend his deal even further after the end of the season shows how committed Emery is to his project at Villa Park and, as things stand, it seems the good times will keep on rolling.
