Jhon Duran will not be happy with Unai Emery development at Aston Villa
Unai Emery has signed a new long-term contract with Aston Villa but due to a lack of minutes under him, Jhon Duran is unlikely to be very happy.
Since moving from Villarreal to Villa Park, Emery has got a tune out of his side to carry them up the Premier League.
Nearing the end of his second season, the Villans are in a Champions League spot and a Conference League semi-final.
The news of him signing a new contract is music to fans’ ears but Duran may feel aggrieved with Colombian outlet Noticias RCN reporting on 23 October that he’d fallen out with the former Arsenal boss.
Should Jhon Duran leave Aston Villa?
The Colombian joined the club in January 2023 for £18m [BBC Sport] but only made 12 appearances in his first season.
He has since scored his first goals for the club this season with top-class finishes against Crystal Palace, Ajax and Manchester City.
Duran has registered six goals in all competitions across 31 appearances. However, just two of those have been Premier League starts [FotMob].
Due to this lack of starts, he has only accrued 337 league minutes this season and the 20-year-old surely wants more. He has undoubted quality in certain aspects but can be extremely frustrating to watch.

According to FotMob, he is yet to register an assist, has created just three chances and completed just two dribbles. These aren’t his strengths but they make him a more one-dimensional player.
Compare this to Ollie Watkins who has scored 19 goals but has added to that 12 assists and 43 chances created [FotMob], he is integral to Emery’s set-up.
Against Man City, Duran was tasked with holding the ball up and catching them on the counter. Although he got on the scoresheet, he had a duel win rate of just 20 per cent which caused pressure on the defence [FotMob].
These pitfalls in his game make Emery reluctant to trust him from the start, instead seeing him as a useful impact substitute, like against Lille.
With the Spaniard not going anywhere any time soon, Duran may feel his time in B6 is up.
In other Aston Villa news, a new Ollie Watkins exit prediction has emerged at Villa Park as the Villans were linked with a new centre-forward
