Aston Villa could now be set for £15m windfall amid UEFA development

Aston Villa could potentially earn up to £15million if they win the Europa Conference League this season, according to Dan Plumley.

Villa secured their place in the semi-finals of the competition when they beat French side Lille on penalties on Thursday (18 April).

The football finance expert revealed that Villa will earn £12.25million in prize money if they can claim the trophy alongside the cash they will net from TV rights.

“We know that based on the prize money distribution, just prize money alone if Villa were to win the whole thing and based on what they’ve already banked, you’re looking in the region of about £12.25million in prize money,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“They will also then get a share of the TV part, which is a share of circa £20million. We don’t know the breakdown of that yet.

“They will get a little bit for the coefficient, but their coefficient won’t be that high because they’ve not had a recent history in Europe.

“Conservatively, they will earn at least £12.25million linked to prize money and a little bit more from the TV part.

“It will be interesting to see the West Ham figures when we get them, but you’re talking in the region of at least £12million to £15million if you go all the way and win it.”

Aston Villa could be set for healthy financial windfall

Although it’s not a huge amount of cash on offer in Premier League terms, the Europa Conference League prize money would provide Villa’s finances with a healthy boost.

As Plumley points out, they would be guaranteed more than £12million for lifting the trophy, but it’s so far unknown exactly how much the TV money could generate them.

That won’t be on the mind of Unai Emery at the moment, though, as his focus will be on securing a top-four spot and ensuring his side reach the final of the competition.
