Unai Emery to ‘Reconsider’ Nicolo Zaniolo future at Aston Villa after what midfielder did recently

Bryan King believes Nicolo Zaniolo did enough against Arsenal to force Unai Emery to “reconsider” his stance on the midfielder.

The ex-Villa scout feels that Emery might be forced into a rethink after Zaniolo’s impressive display in the 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates (14 April).

Zaniolo has not had the season he would have liked on loan from Galatasaray at Villa Park, and Emery might have already made his mind up about whether or not to make the midfielder’s stay permanent.

It has been suggested that Zaniolo is keen on returning to Italy but King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – feels that things might have changed this week.

“We won’t know exactly what Emery is thinking until the end of the season, but putting in a performance like Zaniolo did against Arsenal certainly won’t do him any harm,” King said.

“Even if he isn’t going to stay at Villa, other clubs will have noticed his performance against Arsenal.

“Emery will be looking at the way Zaniolo has adapted to life at Villa Park, he won’t just be focussed on this one match.

“However, he certainly did enough last time out for Emery to perhaps reconsider and take another look at the situation.”

Does Nicolo Zaniolo deserve one final chance to prove himself at Aston Villa to Unai Emery?

Zaniolo was impressive in what was one of Villa’s biggest wins of the season, handling the threat of Ben White and Bukayo Saka well on the right-hand side.

He certainly did enough to prove that he deserves more minutes between now and the end of the season, and Emery should give the Itallian a few more opportunities to demonstrate what he can do.

Even if a permanent transfer is unlikely at this point, Aston Villa might regret not taking a proper look at their loanee, and Emery must ensure he makes the correct decision.
