Aston Villa: Transfer update emerges from Villa Park with bonus on cards
Dan Plumley has insisted that this summer may be quiet in terms of new transfers for Aston Villa after posting their recent losses.
The football finance expert admitted that Champions League qualification could change that, with fifth spot still potentially opening that door.
It comes after links emerged over Sheffield United midfielder Ollie Arblaster and a potential free transfer for Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso.
“We’ve said that in the past with Villa,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“They’ve posted significant losses, we can see the numbers, we know they’ve had that investment in the playing squad and we know that the owners are backing that journey and that vision which is great.
“It did appear that this summer was looking like a more quieter one, I guess Champions League football may change that a bit.
“If you really want to compete in the Champions League, you might have to realign your sights a little bit, but the underlying numbers would suggest a more transitional summer for the club and the Champions League would be a bonus.
“I think it is probably a free hit in many ways.”

Aston Villa transfer moves
Given that the losses were over £100million, it would be no surprise to see a quiet summer at Villa Park.
With Champions League qualification a real possibility though, that would bring an instant £50million bonus to the club, something which could change everything.
