
Aston Villa: Morgan Rogers justifies £8million price tag with ‘Brilliant’ moment v Brentford
Morgan Rogers has been lauded for a moment of individual brilliance as he featured in a 3-3 thriller between Aston Villa and Brentford on Saturday (6 April).
Unai Emery’s men took a 2-0 lead before nine minutes of madness saw Mathias Jorgensen, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa all netted to give the Bees an unexpected lead.
Ollie Watkins scored a late equaliser to claim back a single point, but it was Morgan Rogers who impressed the most, netting Villa’s second goal of the afternoon, and his first in Villa colours.
Speaking live on Sky Sports on Saturday (6 April, 4:04pm), Paul Merson said: “What a goal. The young lad, Rogers, has scored the goal. What a good goal it is.
“They’re building up down the right-hand side, [Youri] Tielemans plays a ball into Rogers on the edge of the box, it’s a lovely turn inside the defender, and as he goes to beat the next defender, he gives the goalkeeper the eyes and whips it into the near corner.
“The ‘keeper can’t do anything about it. Brilliant finish, brilliant goal.”

With just four Premier League starts to his name so far, Emery has slowly helped the youngster adjust to life in the top tier of English football. Now, with his first goal for the Villans, the only way is up for Rogers.
As well as netting a beautiful effort past Mark Flekken, he managed to maintain a 92 per cent pass accuracy throughout 69 minutes on the field. [FotMob]
Despite registering a 50 per cent accuracy with his shots (1/2), Rogers made his one shot on target count as he doubled Villa’s lead one minute into the second half.
He was also involved in 11 total duels against Brentford and, although he only won 55 per cent of them, his desire will have been appreciated by his manager.
There are no doubts over Rogers’ talents, showing exactly why Villa signed him during the winter transfer window, and it is only a matter of time before he is regularly adding goal contributions to his game.
As per FBref, among the wingers in the top five European leagues, the youngster ranks in the top 88 percentile for assists, as well as the top 70 percentile for shot-creating actions.
Also, boasting a top 83 percentile ranking for touches in the attacking penalty area, Rogers is certainly getting in all the right areas, but just needs to add more goals and assists to his game now.
