Nicolo Zaniolo finished at Aston Villa after what Unai Emery was spotted doing – ‘Diabolical’
Bryan King believes Aston Villa will have no interest in making Nicolo Zaniolo’s loan stay permanent after his “diabolical” mistake against Manchester City.
The ex-Villa scout has slammed the Villa loanee after he turned his back on Phil Foden’s free-kick on Wednesday (3 April), which saw the ball creep through the wall as City restored their lead en route to a 4-1 victory over the Villans at the Etihad Stadium.
Zaniolo is currently on loan at Villa Park from Galatasaray and the Premier League side have the option to make his stay permanent.
King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes there is no chance of that happening after seeing Emery’s reaction to the 24-year-old’s mistake against City.
“If Zaniolo had stood still he would have blocked it, I am not sure what on earth he was doing,” said the former scout.
“I can’t see his loan move being made permanent after that if I am honest, I saw Emery’s reaction on the line when the goal went in, if ever there was a man ready to burst it was him, he was furious.
“You can’t give goals away like that against a quality team like Manchester City, it was diabolical, I was in shock.”
Nicolo Zaniolo has sealed his fate at Aston Villa under Unai Emery
It hasn’t been the most productive of loan spells for Zaniolo.
Despite finding some form in recent weeks, it appears that all of his hard work has been undone by one lapse in concentration against City.
Although it might perhaps seem hard to judge his entire stay on that one mistake, in truth, he hasn’t offered much else to convince Emery.

Had he set Villa Park on fire with his performance, things might be different, but based on the way he has been playing it feels as if this mistake might have been enough to seal his fate.
