Aston Villa: Lucas Digne exit mooted as situation now ‘out of control’ at Villa Park

Lucas Digne could be on his way out of Aston Villa if they decide to sign Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, according to Ty Bracey.

TEAMTALK reported on its website on 11 March that Villa are interested in signing the Scotland international, who is currently on loan at La Liga side Real Sociedad from the Gunners.

It added that the North London club are looking to recoup the £25million fee they paid to sign the 26-year-old left-back from Celtic five years ago.

Bracey believes the transfer link suggests high-earning French international Digne could be on his way out of the club after the wages situation has got “out of control” recently at Villa Park.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “That to me would suggest that Lucas Digne is on his way out.

“But I think we’ve got to be very careful with the financial side of things at Villa at the moment.

“If it means getting one off the books and getting someone in on less money, then that’s what we need to do.

Lucas Digne has been linked with a move away from Aston Villa

“I would keep Digne, but we may need to balance the books better with the wages getting a bit out of control.

“If that’s what we need to do to start steadying the ship a little bit and we need to replace him with someone cheaper, then I’m for it.”

Could Lucas Digne leave Aston Villa?

It probably wouldn’t be a big surprise if Digne were to leave Villa this summer due to his high wages and the club’s widely reported FFP situation.

As Bracey points out, they may need to try and balance the books over the coming months, with the Frenchman, who has previously been linked with a move away, surely one of the prime candidates to leave.

That would mean someone is likely to come in to replace him and it’ll be interesting to see whether or not Tierney could be that man given his previous experience in the Premier League.
