Aston Villa: Joe Cole awestruck by what Youri Tielemans did in stunning display v England
Aston Villa ace Youri Tielemans showed why Unai Emery should keep the faith in him with his performance for Belgium against England on Tuesday (26 March).
The 26-year-old started in the middle of the park for the Red Devils and scored twice in the 2-2 draw against the Three Lions.
His two strikes came close to handing his side a victory at Wembley before Jude Bellingham popped up with practically the last kick of the game to ensure it ended all square.
But Tielemans was praised for his performance in the clash, with Joe Cole impressed by his finish for the opening goal.
Speaking on Channel 4 on Tuesday (26 March, 08:38pm), he said: “It’s a lovely touch from Onana there and Tielemans, I think he’s being very clever there. This touch here, don’t underestimate that.
“That’s a beautiful weighted pass and then he just knows Pickford’s going to be desperately trying to get to his far post and he just sort of drags it with his left foot into the bottom corner. It’s a great finish.”
After Villa have suffered an injury crisis lately and John McGinn has been suspended following his sending-off against Tottenham, the midfielder’s had an extended run in the side lately.
He certainly did his chances no harm of that continuing against England, having earned a game-high 8.7 rating from SofaScore for his display.
The Belgian recorded a 77 per cent pass success rate with his 43 touches of the ball, while he also made two key passes to go alongside his brace.
He won three out of his five duels, made one tackle and completed his one attempted dribble for a 100 per cent success rate.
Tielemans will have a good chance of starting for the Villans against Wolves on Saturday (30 March), where he will be hoping to build upon his excellent performance for Belgium.
