Aston Villa: ‘Lucrative’ Champions League fall back on cards at Villa Park

Dan Plumley has insisted that England gaining a fifth Champions League spot could be very lucrative for Aston Villa this season.

The Villans are currently sitting fourth in the Premier League but aren’t in the best form, with Spurs currently three points behind with a game in hand.

The football finance expert admitted that with the extra Champions League spot on the line, it could be a nice fallback for Villa if the worst were to happen.

“I think that is the balance at the minute,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“As we’ve seen, it’s looking likely that the way we think the results will play out in the knockout rounds to come England will get a fifth spot, but we don’t know for certain.

You absolutely want to be aiming for the top four because there are no then arguments and you are safe, but there is also a high degree of likelihood that fifth spot becomes a Champions League space for the Premier League this season.

If you can just stay in and around that mix, it may not be that you have to be in the top four, and being in fifth spot could be really lucrative come the end of the season.”

Lucrative spot perfect for Aston Villa

Champions League qualification could be worth £50million instantly for Villa, and with recent financial issues being raised, it is needed.

Villa are fighting among the best in the Premier League this season, having already beaten the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal, with the main prize getting close.

Fingers crossed, fourth spot can be secured and the nervous wait is avoided.
