Jhon Duran mooted to quit Aston Villa by insider as Champions League development slammed

Aston Villa ace Jhon Duran is “desperate” to play regular football, according to former Villa Park scout Bryan King.

The verdict comes amid transfer links between the Villa Park and Colombia striker and Premier League rivals Chelsea.

But King believes Unai Emery will need as big a squad as possible if Champions League football is secured next season.

Speaking to Villa News, King said: “I think he is desperate to play football regularly. Will he go on loan, or would they sell him?

“If you’re going into the Champions League, you’re going to need a squad of players. You can’t rely on 12 or 14 players, you’ve got to have a squad of 20 players.

“At the moment, everything is speculation, because they’re still doing their best to get into the Champions League, as all clubs involved in the race are.

“But the Champions League is false in name, i.e. the champions are playing in it, but fifth place has as good a chance of winning the Champions League as the champions. I don’t agree with that, it’s more matches, more money, more sponsors, more TV.”

Can Aston Villa afford to lose Jhon Duran?

Emery has certainly built an impressive squad at Villa Park, with his side flying high in the Premier League and Europa Conference League this season.

Duran does boast 25 appearances in all competitions this season, although the majority of those have come from the bench.

Unsurprisingly, the 20-year-old has played second fiddle to star striker Ollie Watkins, who has also been linked with an exit from the Midlands club.

In other Aston Villa news, one ace must be let go despite a 100% display against West Ham that left Stephen Warnock wowed.
