Aston Villa: Another blow emerges as ‘major’ Matty Cash injury news drops at Villa Park
Aston Villa may have suffered yet another injury blow after Matty Cash was forced off while playing for Poland in what has been described as a “major concern”.
The injury was reported by Birmingham Live [21 March] who shared the news that the right-back lasted just ten minutes on the field before being taken off after the blow.
This comes off the back of a mini-crisis at Villa Park, with the likes of Pau Torres, Diego Carlos and Jhon Duran having only recently returned to action, while Boubacar Kamara remains out.
Aston Villa suffer ‘major’ blow with Matty Cash injury news
While the extent of Cash’s injury has not been revealed, the fact he lasted just ten minutes for Poland will be a worry for Unai Emery, who has relied on the right-back’s performances in recent weeks.
Cash was brought on at half-time in the 1-1 Premier League draw against West Ham to inject some attacking impetus into the side, and his 66 per cent dribble success rate and ground duel success rate showed the standard of his display. [Sofascore]
Prior to this, he played 90 minutes in the 4-0 demolition of Ajax at Villa Park in the Europa Conference League, with a 93 per cent pass accuracy and 100 per cent aerial duel success rate, as well as a 100 per cent long pass accuracy, displaying his versatility.
The more defensive side of his game was on display as Tottenham dismantled Emery’s team as he picked up four tackles, two clearances, one block and one interception, drawing three fouls and getting two shots off despite a disappointing display overall.

Cash’s impact at both ends of the pitch has made him a reliable source of performances under Emery, and while he may not start every game due to changing tactics and styles – with Ezri Konsa often playing as a right-back – he remains an important part of the squad.
If this injury blow is serious, it could be a real concern for Villa.
