Aston Villa: ‘Huge’ financial boost on cards after losses and PSR news from Villa Park

Dan Plumley has insisted that it would be a “huge financial boost” if Aston Villa were to qualify for the Champions League this season.

It comes weeks after losses of £119.6million were confirmed, with the club having to confirm they were fine against any possible PSR breaches.

The football finance expert did admit it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they didn’t quality for the top competition, but it would help against Premier League and UEFA regulations.

“It wouldn’t be the end of the world if they don’t make the Champions League,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“The Champions League would give them a huge financial boost based on the numbers we have seen at the club.

Whichever way we spin that, we have to look at the two versions we are working with at the minute, PSR calculations within the Premier League and Villa’s position within that, that may change and we’re looking at UEFA’s regulations now that are more on a squad cost ratio that we know.

Within both of those sets of regulations, Villa still are playing catch up a little bit based on the numbers we’re looking at, so they have not got much headroom to work with, in fact, they will likely need to squeeze that headroom to make the cut.

There is a transition period for Villa within that, as I say, the Champions League would bring a huge financial boost which would help with both of those positions, but the Europa League wouldn’t be the end of the world.

They are not desperate, desperate times, but it would be a significant boost if they can get into the Champions League spot.”

Huge Aston Villa boost on cards at Villa Park

Plumley has previously shared that the Champions League is instantly worth £50million to clubs after qualification, showing just how big it can be.

With suggestions that players may have to be sold to fit into new regulations around Europe, this could certainly fight against that, with the need growing.
