Aston Villa transfer news as Fabrizio Romano shares update on Jhon Duran to Chelsea
Chelsea have yet to enter serious negotiations with Aston Villa over a move for forward Jhon Duran, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Colombia international was linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge in January [Sky Sports] after struggling for starts at Villa Park.
Talk of Duran possibly being on Chelsea’s radar ahead of the summer window has not gone away, but Romano insists his focus is on Villa.
“Jhon Duran was another name linked with Chelsea back in January, but the move was never close,” Romano said on his Daily Briefing page [19 March].
“At the moment I’m not aware of concrete contacts. He’s just one of many players they considered and discussed but it never led to a proper negotiation with Villa. He’s fully focused on Villa now, no one else.”
Chelsea linked with Jhon Duran move
Duran was finally handed his first Premier League start in the 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday (17 March), but that lasted just 45 minutes.
The 20-year-old had previously been reserved to 26 appearances from the substitutes’ bench in the league since joining in January 2023.
While Duran has shown in glimpses what he is capable of, he has not been given a run of games to truly showcase his talents.
There have been suggestions he does not have the full trust of Unai Emery, who does of course have Ollie Watkins to call upon up top.

Should Duran move on in the summer, though, a replacement would need to be found to continue providing support for Watkins in attack.
On the basis of what we have seen at Chelsea over the past couple of years, a switch to Stamford Bridge would only derail Duran’s career.
Given his age and what he has showed in his limited minutes, it seems best for all involved for the Colombian to stay put at Villa Park for now.
