Aston Villa: Dan Bardell reacts to what Cesc Fabregas said about Unai Emery at Villa Park

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is a great coach and manager despite what Cesc Fabregas said about him, according to Dan Bardell.

Speaking to BBC Sport on 9 February, the former Spain international said the Villa boss is a “great coach” as he goes into detail in training and will stop sessions up to 20 times until he gets exactly what he wants to see from the players.

But he believes the Spaniard has been more successful when the expectations are lower and he’s had to be more of a coach compared to when he’s had to take on a managerial role at a bigger club, where he was managing top players.

Bardell believes Emery is “meticulous” and he puts every inch of himself into what he does after having an incredibly successful spell since taking over at Villa Park.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I would say he’s both a great coach and a great manager.

“You don’t have the turnaround Villa have had since he arrived at the club unless you’re both.

“We know how diligent he is on the training ground, the level of detail that he goes to and the clips the players have to watch.

“These are much longer days for the Villa players than it was under Steven Gerrard because Unai Emery is meticulous and he puts every inch of himself into what he does.

“I think he’s a good coach and manager.”

Unai Emery has made huge difference at Aston Villa

There is no questioning the impact Emery has had at Villa since replacing Steven Gerrard as manager at Villa Park in October 2022.

The Spaniard has a great CV under his belt, with his time at fellow Premier League side Arsenal, where he replaced a club legend in Arsene Wenger, the only blip in his managerial career.

He has improved several players over the past 15 months or so and is on track to help the Villans qualify for the Champions League this season.
