Aston Villa: Finance Expert shares if Premier League charge on way at Villa Park
Dan Plumley has insisted that Aston Villa should be fine when it comes to potential breaches of Profit and Sustainability regulations in the Premier League.
It comes after David Ornstein reported for The Athletic that Newcastle had made a late approach for Jacob Ramsey, with funds needing to be raised and the belief that offers above £50million will be contemplated.
The football finance expert admitted that everyone is on alert after the charges for Everton and Nottingham Forest, but Villa should be fine after looking at their recent account numbers.
“I think everyone has been put on alert,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“If you look at Villa’s numbers, the raw numbers, they have had losses but won’t we don’t always see and you can’t get the detailing of all the accounts, is all the acceptable deductions from the profit and sustainability calculations and clubs are still in a position to claim a little bit from lost money in the pandemic.
“You’ve also got infrastructure costs, you’ve got academy costs, infrastructure and academy investment costs, and development in the women’s team as a few examples.
“All those things are exempt in the calculations and we often can’t see that so you are kind of speculating on some of the numbers, when you factor those things in, I think Villa, looking at those numbers would be ok, that’s my gut feeling.
“Everyone is now looking over their shoulders because of the situation at Everton and Nottingham Forest, and if you look at the here and now of that, what we have not seen for any club, at Villa for example, is the 2023 figures so they will also be looking now at 2024 projections which is what this window has been focused on and they have invested in the squad and have future plans to invest.

“That’s where you start to look at some of the players you could maybe shift on, and obviously, academy players are pure profit in those terms against the regulations.
“I don’t think it is unique to Villa but my gut feeling is they’re fine against those regulations when you factor in all of those deductions.”
Aston Villa breach fears?
Dan Bardell recently admitted that with fear growing around the profit and sustainability regulations, sales of homegrown players reward the clubs more to help that situation.
With Champions League qualification still on the cards this season though, securing that would bring in £50million of windfall at least, something that could cover any potential fears.
In other Aston Villa news, the club may have suffered yet another injury blow as a first-team player could now be out longer than first feared.
