Gary Neville blasts ‘wasteful’ Aston Villa man Moussa Diaby after what he did v Man United

Aston Villa suffered yet another home defeat as Manchester United beat them 2-1 at Villa Park on Sunday (11 February).

Unai Emery’s side had only just been defeated on home soil by both Newcastle United and Chelsea in the Premier League and FA Cup respectively.

And it was the former competition in which they lost out to the Red Devils, with Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay scoring for the visitors either side of Douglas Luiz’s goal for the hosts.

Emery did his best to clinch all three points during the game, with one decision involving bringing on Moussa Diaby for Boubacar Kamara in the 65th minute.

But the summer signing did not make any real impact on the match, blowing his real chance to make a difference with a poor effort in the 79th minute.

Diaby, who impressed against Sheffield United recently, faced the Manchester United defence then turned towards goal after breaking forward, but his left-footed strike ended up off target.

The shot from the winger did not impress Gary Neville, who said live on Sky Sports Main Event (6.12pm, 11 February): “He had no conviction. He lost Victory Lindelof. Unai Emery is telling him to calm down, Diaby. It’s wasteful.”

Diaby has been forced to play second fiddle to star winger Leon Bailey lately, and the former may have to get used to the bench after his latest cameo at Villa Park.

As per Sofascore, the attacker had just 17 touches of the ball, with Diaby inaccurate with both of his attempted crosses. Moreover, the winger won just one of his four duels (25%), registered just a 78% pass success rate, and failed to complete his only dribble attempt.
